MEMS Defined: It is worthwhile to examine the meaning of the terminology.
The MICRO part of the name means that these machines have micron-sized
features. The use of the term ELECTROMECHANICAL suggests motors, pivots,
links, switches, gears, and actuators. And SYSTEMS suggests a set of
functions related to a goal or purpose. Very often MEMS are used to sense
and manipulate the physical environment by responding to various inputs
